a cut above

When I spotted this (http://thelongthread.com/?p=3885) post, I knew we HAD to rush out and get lino straight away...I set Robs up designing and printing and she LOVED seeing her design in print. Although six prints later she had gotten over the feeling...! Great cards were made for all the parties this weekend..

happy birthday to me..

How lucky can one girl get! Wonderfully spoilt by my girlfriends on Monday.

These I love: a card which becomes a brooch and a chunky necklace in my favourite colours. Thanks Trace and Gill...(and you can see the butterfly necklace peeping out in the background...another winner)

inspirational vases

After seeing these wonderful ideas (http://whimsy-girl.blogspot.com/2009/05/unconventional-vases.html), I was immediately challenged to "think outside the box" when I received this beautiful gift bag and flowers for my birthday. The flowers are in a tall glass vase inside the bag and I fluffed them up to "fill" out the bag. Thanks for the idea, the gift and the flowers!

storm warnings

I meant to post these first -these were pics I took on Friday as we drove through the mountains to Ceres (about 2 1/2 hours drive from Cape Town) to support Nic on a school music and hockey exchange. These were taken about the only time it wasn't raining on the trip-but we were rewarded with a full rainbow for a few minutes...

good friends and good food

Had an early birthday lunch at this (http://www.delheim.com/drestaurant.htm) beautiful wine farm today. After 48 hours and 60mm of rain, while the sun didn't exactly shine warmly, at least we could enjoy the gardens and autumn scenery.

softies

I found this bunny pattern in the build up to Easter and just HAD to make it, but never managed to get it done in time. However, it made a fun birthday present for a special goddaughter together with the fluffy heart cushion. My apologies as i cant remember the name of the blog or its designer!

somewhere over the rainbow...

Posted by Picasa
I have posted this before but for some reason unbeknownst to me the photo never downloads but it was such a great day I thought I would try again, so here goes:
Today we finally got to have Robs party which was cancelled just before her birthday because of her accident. I had in mind to tye-dye T-shirts so we chose a rainbow theme. We set sweeties out on a rainbow background we painted; we mixed up juice in all(well 6) of the rainbow colours; we made a cake which had all the colours of the rainbow when we cut it and then we dyed t-shirts! I used this(http://http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5oUjr0UibY)is method, so while some girls were busy with the dying the rest could either make rainbow flower arrangements or rainbow keychains out of beads and buttons (which they got to take home on rainbow ballons!). It was hectic but thanks to the help from some faithful moms we got all 19 girls sorted without any stains on clothes (I hope..). So, done for another year but great fun had by all ..

winter joy

It never ceases to fill me with wonder how the brown dry garden turns green overnight after the first autumn rains in the Cape. Here are some of the flowers that have started to show their winter colours.

happy as a pig in mud

One of Fatcat's many favourite nap spots is on my desk in the morning sun. He will sleep on whatever happens to be on that spot -which a few days ago were 35 flower cutouts waiting to go on cards and which are now covered in sand and cat hair! So I thought he deserve a bed for his 10th birthday -and he hasn't budged since!
